City of Virginia Beach is awarded their APWA Accreditation.
On Tuesday, December 12, 2013 a presentation was made in front of Virginia Beach City Council by Diane Linderman, APWA National Past President, recognizing the achievement by the Public Works Department in becoming certified with the APWA Accreditation designation. Virginia Beach began their process with a “Self-Assessment” evaluation process in 2009 and they have been diligently progressing with the process of satisfying all of the APWA Accreditation requirements. Diane Linderman, on behalf of APWA National provided the overview and presentation before Mayor Will Sessoms and the rest of Virginia Beach City Council and there were accolades for the Public Works staff who diligently worked on the Accreditation process, which is a significant achievement. In addition to Diane Linderman attending to present this award to Phil Davenport, other key individuals attending this ceremony before Virginia Beach City Council included Phil Koetter (Va. Beach P.W. Operations Management Administrator); Mark Gemender (Retired Va. Beach P.W. Operations Engineer); John Herzke (APWA Mid-Atlantic Chapter President); John Fowler (Va. Beach City Engineer); Mark Johnson (Public Works Operations Engineer); & John Lasley (Va. Beach Contracts Coordinator).The City of Virginia Beach becomes the 88th community/locality which has become certified as an approved APWA Accreditation agency in the United States and Canada. There are several other accredited agencies in the Mid-Atlantic Chapter: the City of Newport News (2003), City of Richmond (2005), City of Alexandria (2006), City of Chesapeake (2006) and Prince William County (2012). Congratulations to all of our accredited agencies for their achievements!
